As I sit at a desk in my 4th floor bedroom and look out the open window, I see the black silhouette of a roofline with chimneys highlighted by the deepening blue gray glow that follows sunset. The rest of the sky is deep indigo punctuated by two bright stars. I hear, in a distracted way, the passing of cars and a police siren but I am focused on a flute solo coming from the nearby square. St. Seurin’s spires are lit softly and every now and then , the church bells ring. The entering air is cool and soon I will need to close the windows. Night is enveloping Bordeaux.
