Selma

So many movies are based on true stories these days that you have to wonder just how much license the producers take in creating drama for potential awards.  I was less than ten when the civil rights movement was sharing space with the Vietnam War.  Living in Michigan suburbia, I was pretty isolated from what was probably occurring in nearby Detroit and I certainly would not have understood it.  However, after today’s screening of Selma, which was well acted, I hope I would have been one of the people who joined the march…based on what I know now and who I might have been then.  I applaud the idea that when diplomacy doesn’t work, resorting to violence does not have to be an answer.
