A little trepidation, or maybe a lot. My first sushi experience was a guided tour, thank heavens. Sashimi was an instant thumbs up while rolls required a decision whether or not to like seaweed. The wasabi was predictably and horseradishly spicy and I’m grateful I know the difference between it and avocado! I might be able to eat a whole jar of pickled ginger at one sitting. Yes, it was that good. My favorite plate was a “not on the menu” concoction of tempura’ed carrots and crispy eel skins on a bed of dressed lettuce. I amazed even myself when I served second and third helpings. My first sushi led to my second sushi which did not disappoint. And now, since eel is a common fish served in the Bordeaux area, I’ll be on the lookout for an authentic sushi experience in my hometown…somehow, I don’t think it’s going to come from the pink palace known as Planet Sushi!
